Employment/Academic Goals:

A career in concordance with my desire for lifelong learning, possessed of variety, stimulation, and change. More specifically, a career with opportunities to teach as well as be taught, with a focus on computing but not limited to such. This includes vocations in training, PC/LAN support, and technical writing. Travel, project management, and multilingualism are all welcome additions.

Employment History

IT On-Site Support Representative, '06-'08
San Diego Unified School District ; San Diego, California

Served as a liaison between SDUSD's central office and school sites, providing on-site training and support primarily for the district's student information system, Zangle. Additional duties included documentation, small-scale project management, quality assurance, query writing, data analysis, and gentle enforcement of school policies.


Primary ESL Teacher, '04-'06
Kid Castle Educational Corporation; Xindian, Taiwan

While learning Chinese, undertook a part-time job teaching English to Taiwanese children ranging from 6 to 16 years of age. Tasks included curriculum development; creating assessment tools and spreadsheets, and computer-based education.


Kindergarten Teacher, '02-'04
Kang Qiao Bilingual Primary School (Kang Qiao) ; Xindian, Taiwan

Taught a 20-student class all day in an English immersion environment, enjoying a substantial amount of freedom in creation of a broad class curriculum, including phonics, reading, art, math, science, and physical education. Served on a committee developing standardized assessment tests for entrance into Cambridge's first grade, and developed an online intranet database using MySQL, PHP, and Apache to further coordinate teaching resources and communications for the rest of the teaching staff.


ESL Tutor, '01-'02
American English Institute, University of Oregon; Eugene, Oregon

Tutored students on subjects ranging from the most basic of English grammar to the development of a thesis for advanced paper-writing.


Graduate Teaching Fellow, '99-'02
Wired Humanities Project, University of Oregon; Eugene, Oregon

Primary duty was as a web designer, but the project involved a wide range of corollary functions, including project management, web and graphic design, server administration, teaching, and supervision of undergraduate students.

Served a wide range of support tasks, including project management, training, telephone support, database design, documentation, network and server administration.


User Consultant, '93-'96
Grinnell College Computing Services; Grinnell, Iowa

Served for three (academic) years at Grinnell College responding to queries and problems encountered by users in the college computer labs equipped with PCs, Macintoshes, and UNIX (HP-UX) machines.


Student Intern, '94
Eurotunnel; Cheriton, Britain

Interned for 5 weeks with such projects as adapting an Excel database from the French branch of the tunnel to the English branch, optimizing use of the communication ports, and document management.

  • Working knowledge of graphic and web design programs such as Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop as well as raw HTML.

  • Proficient with networking concepts -- firewalls, routers, ip addressing schemes and protocols.
  • Proficient with XP, NT and other Windows operating systems, MS-DOS, MacOS; experienced with IBM OS/400, VMS, and UNIX.

  • Typing speed of upwards of 100 wpm.
  • Familiarity with the deployment of PHP-based MySQL subsystems.
